About the Program

by Blackthorn Rugby, Blackthorn Youth Rugby is a summer flag rugby program open
to boys and girls, ages 8 to 14. Games are played from the middle of June until
early August. The season kicks off with several weeks of orientation and practice,
followed by games against other local youth programs.
Games and tournaments
are also being considered against teams
from
New Jersey and Delaware. Flag Rugby, endorsed by USA
Rugby (the governing body of rugby in the U.S.), is a simplified, non-contact
version of rugby. It emphasizes the education of rugby fundamentals to players
and parents in a controlled and safe environment. It is fast, fun and easy to
learn. It helps with the development of teamwork, hand-eye-coordination, ball-handling
and fitness skills. It's a great cross-training sport for football, soccer, and
lacrosse. Formal registration occurs the end of spring. Check website for updates..
