Marshall K Sturm Fund

The MKS Fund

Established in honor of one of club founders Markshall Sturm. The goal of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a camp instructor at College Settlement to exclusively teach the campers rugby over the summer.

November 23 2019 event

.Please join Blackthorn RFC for our annual club rugby match fundraiser to benefit out MKS and WYWU Funds in honor of our teammates and friends who have passed on. All events will be hosted at College Settlement Camp this year with matches being played on the rugby pitch and the fundraiser being held once again in the banquet hall above the field.  This year's date is November 23rd.

As in years past, all current players, old boys, alumni and friends of BRFC are invited to play in the club match. In addition, the newly formed Blackthorn Inclusive Rugby Club will be playing a match and showing off the rugby skills they've been developing under the tutelage of BRFC coaches such as Al Corless, Kevin Rae, Joe Grohovsky, Rodd Whitney, CJ Fitzgerald, Jim Reddy and others. Finally, the BRFC High School team will also be taking the field against Hempfield RFC. It is going to be a great day of rugby followed by another great fundraiser.

After the matches, everyone is invited to join the club in the banquet hall where there will be food, drink, raffles and entertainment. Already we have some great prizes that have been donated for the raffles, but we can always use more...

  • a lottery ticket basket (donated by Bonnie Lynn, HS parent)
  • rugby jersey bundle (donated by BRFC Old Boy Tim Westerman)
  • BRFC Cornhole Game Set (donated by the HS Team, Kevin Golden and Chris Ward)
  • Instant Pot basket (donated by BRFC Old Boys Rob Briggs and TJ Fonash)

We've also been the recipient of a very generous cash donation by one of of our VERY supportive Old Boys. We are well on our way to another successful event, but we will need your support to make it happen yet again this year. How can you help? I'm glad you asked...

  • First and foremost, come out to the events on Nov. 23rd. Bring family and/or friends- you're going to have a great time while supporting a great club initiative.
  • If you'd like to donate an item for the raffles, message me directly and let me know.
  • If you cannot join us on November 23, but would still like to make a donation, checks made out to "MKS Fund" can be mailed to Pat Dufner at 517 Roberts Ave, Glenside, PA 19038

Lastly, thank you for all the support you've given to this event over the years. We're looking forward to another great day and hope you will be there to join us. MKS 2018

2018 Recap

MKS DAY MASSIVE SUCCESS

Members of the far-flung Blackthorn Family turned out in numbers for the best yet MKS event. The club earned a whopping $5,000, which will solidify our support for CSC, spot our sponsored counselorships, and enable the club to lend a hand to young rugby players.

Kudos to president Pat Dufner and the board for their impressive efforts to make this happen. Blackthorn also thanks Lepore Ba-Q for providing food for the event and Frank Rio and the fans’ favorite Yards Brewers for not one, not two, but three different kinds of high quality beverages. Thanks also to John Porter, who transported said beer. John was the only person affiliated with Blackthorn that they trusted.

Thanks to Jim (Ever) Reddy, Bryan Moore and Michelle Moore for handling door duties with skill and humor. While others cavorted about, they kept the door operating (especially in a financial way).

Thank you to the great folks at CSC, especially Rob Kutzik, Karyn Bonner, Joshua Davis, and Dave Gallagher

The lucky ones in attendance took home the impressive raffle prizes, and all were treated to live coverage of November Internationals from The British Isles and Ireland, with the OTHER men in green providing the most entertainment with their impressive win over the All Blacks
