Match re-cap, Whitehorse at Blackthorn.
Blackthorn stormed out to a 17-0 lead against Whitehorse. Derick Morton scored first off a penalty, with conversion by Robbie Vollrath. Robbie subsequently added a penalty kick, and Jake “Fight” Faight added a try with Robbie conversion. Whitehorse scored a try in the last minute of the first half to make the score 17-5. In the second half, Whitehorse stormed back with two tries to take the lead. Blackthorn answered with a try by Jerry Fillman and conversion by Robbie to take the lead again. Whitehorse scored a final try and conversion in the waning minutes of the match to end up on top, 26-24.
Despite the loss, Blackthorn showed a spirited attack with a continuous style of play that should serve us well this season. Next match this Saturday will see the boys in green in action at Reading.
Man of the Match honors were given at the drink-up to captain “E” Pearson for his relentless play throughout the match, truly leaving it all out on the field.
