first match recap

Match re-cap, Whitehorse at Blackthorn.

Blackthorn stormed out to a 17-0 lead against Whitehorse.  Derick Morton scored first off a penalty, with conversion by Robbie Vollrath.  Robbie subsequently added a penalty kick, and Jake “Fight” Faight added a try with Robbie conversion.  Whitehorse scored a try in the last minute of the first half to make the score 17-5.  In the second half, Whitehorse stormed back with two tries to take the lead.  Blackthorn answered with a try by Jerry Fillman and conversion by Robbie to take the lead again.  Whitehorse scored a final try and conversion in the waning minutes of the match to end up on top, 26-24.

Despite the loss, Blackthorn showed a spirited attack with a continuous style of play that should serve us well this season.  Next match this Saturday will see the boys in green in action at Reading.
