Blackthorn High School Program (Under 19)

The High School program was founder by Marshall Sturm back in 1985 and continues today. The side pulls in players from all over Montgomery county from High Schools such as McDevitt, Lasalle, Hatboro Horsham, Abington, William Tennett and Archbishop Wood. The team consistently produces players moving on to both local college teams and to the Blackthorn Men's team. For information on joining or sponsoring contact coaches Kevin Golden or Chris Ward

Marshall K Sturm Scholarship Fundraiser - Nov 23 - at CSC

By Blackthorn Rugby 10/17/2019, 9:45am EDT

.Please join Blackthorn RFC for our annual club rugby match fundraiser to benefit out MKS and WYWU Funds in honor of our teammates and friends who have passed on. All events will be hosted at College Settlement Camp this year with matches being played on the rugby pitch and the fundraiser being held once again in the banquet hall above the field.  This year's date is November 23rd.

As in years past, all current players, old boys, alumni and friends of BRFC are invited to play in the club match. In addition, the newly formed Blackthorn Inclusive Rugby Club will be playing a match and showing off the rugby skills they've been developing under the tutelage of BRFC coaches such as Al Corless, Kevin Rae, Joe Grohovsky, Rodd Whitney, CJ Fitzgerald, Jim Reddy and others. Finally, the BRFC High School team will also be taking the field against Hempfield RFC. It is going to be a great day of rugby followed by another great fundraiser.

After the matches, everyone is invited to join the club in the banquet hall where there will be food, drink, raffles and entertainment. Already we have some great prizes that have been donated for the raffles, but we can always use more...

  • a lottery ticket basket (donated by Bonnie Lynn, HS parent)
  • rugby jersey bundle (donated by BRFC Old Boy Tim Westerman)
  • BRFC Cornhole Game Set (donated by the HS Team, Kevin Golden and Chris Ward)
  • Instant Pot basket (donated by BRFC Old Boys Rob Briggs and TJ Fonash)

We've also been the recipient of a very generous cash donation by one of of our VERY supportive Old Boys. We are well on our way to another successful event, but we will need your support to make it happen yet again this year. How can you help? I'm glad you asked...

  • First and foremost, come out to the events on Nov. 23rd. Bring family and/or friends- you're going to have a great time while supporting a great club initiative.
  • If you'd like to donate an item for the raffles, message me directly and let me know.
  • If you cannot join us on November 23, but would still like to make a donation, checks made out to "MKS Fund" can be mailed to Pat Dufner at 517 Roberts Ave, Glenside, PA 19038

Lastly, thank you for all the support you've given to this event over the years. We're looking forward to another great day and hope you will be there to join us. For updates, check the Facebook event page at  or check out the club's website-

Blackthorn Update week of 10-7-2019 fueled by Yards Brewing

By Blackthorn Rugby 10/07/2019, 12:30pm EDT

Tough road loss for the men's team this past weekend at Harrisburg. Man of the match went to Brandon "The Hammer" Walker. Congratulations Brandon. Sean Niehoff saw his first action as a rugby player in this game, and had a nice run. Someone started calling him Bowling Ball. Continue to bring new guys out to practice, as Sean is a good example of what can happen.

Tonight's Inclusive practice will be under the lights at Northampton Rec Center located at 451 Newtown-Richboro Road in Richboro (Northampton Township) on Field #2 at 5pm sharp.

Men's practice as usual on Tuesday and Thursday as we get ready to travel Saturday to Wilkes Barre.

The HighSchool team traveled to Susquehanna University for a tournament over the weekend - Results TBD

BRFC Song Night is Thursday October 17th. Song Night occurs at McAllister Brewing Company, 810 Dickerson Rd, North Wales, PA.  We go from practice directly there.  They usually offer up grilled steaks to us for a small fee.  Allan Corless should have song books for sale, with proceeds to benefit the Inclusive rugby team.
